The skillset of Motivational Interviewing can help you boost motivation in your clients through your everyday conversations. This workshop introduces the concepts and skills of MI. Participants will learn best practices for giving advice, listening actively through reflection statements, and eliciting change talk to motivate clients. The tools you will learn can be widely applied to help clients and families make positive and lasting behavior changes in their lives. Define Motivational Interviewing. Identify core elements of MI. Distinguish between Change Talk and Sustain Talk. Demonstrate beginning-level skills in eliciting Change Talk. Improve active listening by formulating reflection statements. Learn strategies to enhance client readiness when giving advice or information. Identify ways to integrate skills into your unique practice setting.
